Vela presenting the AI Board Governance Compass in a boardroom

The Assessment

The AI Board Governance Compass.

16 indicators. Four dimensions. A clear, scored picture of where your board stands on AI oversight, and a defensible baseline to move from.

What is the AI Board Governance Compass?

The AI Board Governance Compass is Vela’s assessment of how ready a board is to oversee AI. It scores 16 indicators across four dimensions — Individual, Board, Organization and Stakeholder — each rated 1 to 5 and weighted by criticality, and returns a scored baseline of where the board stands.

The assessment produces a priority queue of the three to five indicators carrying the most unmitigated risk, and a governance record documenting what the board reviewed. Every other Vela engagement begins from that baseline.
